What is Rebalancing®?

Rebalancing is a type of body-focused awareness practice. It is a sythesis of structural integration, fascia and deep tissue work, mindful touch, body analysis, body awareness, and joint mobilization, all in connection with breathing and body awareness. Rebalancing's core concept is restoring balance, whether it's within the body and mind or between the inner and outer worlds. It's an organic and holistic method that continuously evolves, potentially incorporating other techniques while maintaining its unique character. Nevertheless, its primary focus remains on the body's fascia system, which is interconnected with all aspects of the body.

Rebalancing enhances body awareness, allowing individuals to reintegrate their experiences through each session. On a psychological level, deep tissue work can release long-held emotions. Every session brings clients closer to themselves, reinforcing the unity of body and mind and fostering a lasting improvement in their approach to life.

History of Rebalancing®

Rebalancing originated in Pune, India, during the late 1970s. Therapists from diverse disciplines converged to create a comprehensive, holistic therapy concept. This therapy systematically and holistically treats the body, following a structured 10-treatment system.

Why Fascia Work?

Fascia refers to the tough connective tissue that envelops and connects all body components, including bones, muscles, and organs. Collectively, these fasciae form a three-dimensional network that provides cohesion, shape, and stability to the entire body, determining its fundamental structure. Fascia plays a role in maintaining the body's necessary tension for upright posture and movement, thereby alleviating muscle strain. When the fasciae network sticks together too much, it disrupts mobility and energy flow.

What Does a Rebalancing Treatment look like?

You can opt for single treatments, particularly for acute pain relief or relaxation needs, or a series based on your requirements. Each treatment lasts 90 minutes, with time allocated for pre- and post-treatment discussions. Most of the session takes place on a massage table, so wearing comfortable underwear is recommended.

While each treatment stands alone, a series of treatments can have a powerful synergistic effect, systematically involving the entire body. This approach tailors the treatment to an individual's history, needs, and current life challenges. Looking from a 10 session perspective, treatments 1 – 3 introduce the process, working from the surface inward. Treatments 4 – 7 are core treatments, delving into deeper structures, and treatments 8 – 10 focus on integration. The 10 treatments are beneficial for those seeking profound, lasting changes in both the body and consciousness.

What is Body-Mind Centering®?

Body-Mind Centering® is a method for understanding the body that combines perception, free movement, dance, anatomy and somatic awareness. Developed in the USA during the 1970s by movement researcher and therapist Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen, it focuses on exploring and experiencing the body through visualization, imagery, movement, and touch. This method emphasizes individual body systems and early childhood movement development.

In both group and individual settings, we explore anatomical structures and various body systems, including bones, organs, fluids, glands, nerves, muscles, and sensory organs, each with its unique qualities and functions. For example, bones provide support and structure, while organs contribute volume. The alignment of bones can enhance mental and emotional clarity and spatial orientation. Organs, on the other hand, offer a sense of three-dimensionality and vitality.

What does "somatic" mean?

"Somatic" originates from the Greek word "soma," meaning "the living body." It refers to experiencing oneself from within, fostering self-awareness and initiating movement from one's own body awareness.

Who can benefit from Body-Mind Centering®?

  • This practice is suitable for anyone interested in gaining a somatic perspective on what it means to be human.

  • It's for individuals seeking a deeper connection with their bodies, wanting to feel at home within themselves, and desiring increased self-awareness to enhance their capacity to act.

  • It's ideal for those intrigued by their own anatomy and eager to experience it in a vivid manner, whether through individual or group sessions.

  • It's valuable for individuals experiencing pain or looking to work on specific body parts or systems.

Body-Mind Centering® and its somatic movement teaching lead you on an inner journey to perceive and experience the functions, qualities, structures, and purposes of all your body systems. Through voice, touch, somatization, movement, and visualization, we explore and repattern our movement patterns, gaining support, strength, flexibility, and mobility. This helps us navigate life transitions and transformations, discover our potential, and apply it gradually, at our own pace.

Individual and Group Sessions

I offer Body-Mind Centering® both as individual sessions, often combined with Rebalancing, and as group workshops. These sessions usually take place at Bethanien Haus in Berlin and focus on specific themes. Dates and times will be announced here.

Rebalancing® and
Body-Mind Centering®

Hello, I‘m Sandra,

I work as a Rebalancer and Somatic Movement Educator in Body-Mind Centering®. These two body oriented methods go hand in hand in my practice. I‘ve always been fascinated by the human body and movement, and I find great joy in accompanying people on their personal processes. My role involves getting things moving, setting impulses, and understanding deep connections and in giving space to what wants to be. I see my hands as a mirror for others to discover more about themselves. For me, bodywork is an ongoing journey and training of self-awareness, helping us to better self-regulate and maintain agency. My main topic is to help people perceive that they are living and ever-changing beings. How can we embrace flexibility, movement, and change while maintaining stability? This question inspires and motivates me to continually learn and explore.

My professional journey in bodywork began in 2014 at the IPSB Center in Los Angeles, where I learned about fundamental massage techniques like Lymphatic Massage, anatomy, and Tai Chi Chuan to cultivate an inner and outer alignment. From 2016 to 2018, I pursued my Rebalancing training in Bahia, Brazil. Building on these experiences, I furthered my knowledge at Moveus, where I deepened my understanding of anatomy, movement, and basic developemental patterns. It was there that I studied Body-Mind Centering® and in February 2022, I completed my training as a Somatic Movement Educator. For me, both approaches complement each other and I can't imagine life without them.
